How Much Is Your Kidney Worth On The Black Market?

The phrase “It will cost you an arm and a leg” now has a dollar amount. How much would you get if you did sell some of your body parts on the black market? Good chance the thought has entered your mind, but is it worth the risk?

I would say no. I don’t know how you’d go about selling your organs on the black market, and even though the money’s good, I wouldn’t recommend finding out. It’s an huge risk in so many ways.

For the sake of things though, a website compiled info from FBI and other government reports on how much different body parts have sold for on the black market. Here is a list on what body parts go for on the black market.

Kidney. $262,000 in the U.S. $62,000 in China, $15,000 in India.

Pair of eyeballs. $1,525.

Skull with teeth. $1,200.

Hand and forearm. $385.

Pint of blood. $337 in the U.S. just $25 in India.

Skin. $10 per square inch.

Sure we can survive with one kidney and no gallbladder, some people donate them to those waiting for a transplant. Others clearly don’t, that’s why there’s a black market. In the U.S. there are about 113,100 people currently waiting for an organ transplant. There were 14,144 organs donated in 2011. Eighteen people die every day waiting for a transplant.

Again, I wouldn’t suggest finding a doctor in the alley to cut off your hand to pay the electric bill. Wait until you die and have family sell your organs! You know they are just waiting to bust into your coffin before the wake to take out your eyes and heart anyway! You are worth more dead than alive. Your body could be harvested for $810,381, not counting your blood or skin, which varies by size. But your skin could get you another $30,000 or so, and your blood could add on around $3,370.
