#it #security #audit
It doesn t matter if you are new to computer security or an expert, you ll find this section is for you. My firewall test will check your computer for ports that are commonly left open and that could allow your computer to be compromised; I also check for open ports known to be used by viruses that may have infected your system.
If you are the typical home computer user surfing the net, test results should not show that no open ports were found. If open ports were discovered, then we ll show you what that port is commonly used for and how to lock it down.
Note: I am in the process of moving to a new server and much of the backend software needs to be redesigned. I m working on this and it is on my radar to get it back up and running. I work a full time job and offer this port scan as a free service, so my time is limited but I am working on it
Online Firewall Test
You don t need to install anything for this online firewall test to run, you simply need to pick a port, or range of ports, to probe. This is useful for testing remote desktop services, ftp servers and other services running on non-standard ports.
Network administrators looking to test hidden ports will find this firewall test very useful. It eliminates the need to set up a server or outside computer to perform security audits and can be very handy when setting up a new router/firewall.
Accuracy of our Test
Note that some high-end hardware firewalls (Cisco PIX, etc), and software firewalls, may permanently block an IP address if it detects a port scan. You ll want to temporarily disable this autoblock feature (not the firewall ) or you ll receive incorrect results. For example, say that you have a virus running on port 80 and your firewall detects and blocks our IP address after we ve tested port 50.
To my system, every port after 50 will appear closed, but to a hacker starting their port scan against you at port 80 will see that it is really wide open. Many hackers will use a port scanner to probe your system for specific ports and at a slow rate which may allow them to evade your auto block feature.
If you are running on a private network, [you may be connected through a router, proxy, or firewall] and my firewall test may be conducted on that device instead of your computer. For example, you are working for a big company, and want to audit the computer at your desk but you didn t realize that your internet connection, and everyone else in the office, all have the same external IP address our test will audit your company firewall instead of your PC s firewall.
If you are unsure of how your security is set up at work, do not perform the Security Audit! Also, do not audit your company security without the permission of your IT department first. If you re being scanned and want it stopped, or want to prevent this scan from happening in the future, simply Block the IP Address or leave us a comment below.
